Presentation Overview: Stark State College President Para M. Jones, Ph.D. will provide insights into opportunities to align education and workforce to advance the economy in our community, region and state. She will share data and insights from national, state and local research, innovation and collaborative efforts to educate and prepare people of all ages and from all backgrounds for careers and continued learning and earning. As a member of the Governor’s Executive Workforce Board, the Ohio Department of Education’s (ODE’s) New Skills for Youth/SuccessBound task force and TeamNEO’s talent development council, Dr. Jones will share her perspectives for how local business and community leaders can leverage state and regional strategies, align education and workforce efforts and achieve Elevate Greater Akron’s goals.

Para M. Jones, Ph.D. has been President of Stark State College since 2012. She is deeply committed to Stark State College and the community, as evidenced by her 30 years of service to students, businesses and the community. Dr. Jones’s first presidency was at Spartanburg Community College in South Carolina.

Prior to academe, she worked in corporate marketing and communications for Roadway Express and as a technical editor for Goodyear Aerospace.

Dr. Jones’s passion for the community college mission is driven by her belief that students are best served by affordable, quality education that leads to rewarding careers in our community and region.

Dr. Jones holds a PhD from the University of Nebraska, an MBA with honors from Ashland University and a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from the University of Mount Union.

She currently serves or has served on the boards of many community and professional organizations, including: Executive Board of the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce, Akron Urban League, Akron Growth Council, Cleveland Clinic/Akron General’s Community Advisory Council, ConxusNEO and MAGNET (Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network), Executive Committee of Stark Economic Development Board (SEDB), Strengthening Stark Governance Committee, Stark and Tuscarawas County Ohio Means Jobs (OMJ) Workforce Development Board, Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, Stark Education Partnership and the Governor’s Executive Workforce Board.

She also is a member of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Education Council in Washington, DC and TeamNEO’s Business Development Council.

Dr. Jones and her husband Greg live in Jackson Township, where they raised their twin sons, Christopher, who practices law in Cincinnati; and Kyle, who works in investment banking in New York City. They are grandparents of twin girls.
