Presentation Topic: "Health Care Reform: What Lies Ahead"
History was made with the sweeping health care reform legislation passed this Spring. Rich Umbdenstock, President and CEO of the American Hospital Association – the national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks and their patients and communities – will discuss what it all means, and provide an in-depth look at the challenges and opportunities we’ll face as we move to transform American health care into a system that focuses on prevention, is more efficient and coordinated, and provides the best care possible to everyone who needs it.
Mr. Umbdenstock became president and chief executive officer of the American Hospital Association (AHA) on January 1, 2007. He also is a past chair of the AHA Board of Trustees (2006). The AHA leads, represents and serves more than 5,000 member hospitals, health systems and other health care organizations, and 40,000 individual members.

As president of the AHA, he leads a staff of more than 400 who are charged with facilitating member involvement in the development of policy positions, advocating nationally on behalf of the needs of hospitals and patients, and supporting member hospitals in their continuing quest to improve their performance. The AHA collaborates closely in these efforts with other national-level hospital and health care stakeholder organizations, with the 52 state-level hospital associations and with regional and metropolitan hospital associations.
