Walter W. Bettinger, II
President & CEO, The Charles Schwab Corporation

Presentation Topic:  "Why Business Wins By Doing Right By Clients"

Walter W. Bettinger II, 49, serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Charles Schwab Corporation, and is also a member of the Board of Directors of The Charles Schwab Corporation. Mr. Bettinger also serves on the Board of Directors of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. and Charles Schwab Bank, and as a trustee of The Charles Schwab Family of Funds, Schwab Investments, Schwab Capital Trust and Schwab Annuity Portfolios, all registered investment companies. Prior to assuming his current role, he was most recently President and Chief Operating Officer of The Charles Schwab Corporation.

Schwab is one of the nation’s largest financial services firms serving approximately:

 ·         $1.4 trillion in client assets,

·         7.7 million client brokerage accounts,

·         750 thousand bank accounts,

·         5,500 independent investment advisors, and

·         1.5 million retirement plan participants.

During the recent economic and credit crisis, The Charles Schwab Corporation has continued its exceptional growth, capturing more net new client assets than all of its major, publicly traded, brokerage competitors combined.

Mr. Bettinger’s duties include leading the development of strategies and services that assist millions of people worldwide in their efforts to save and invest – either directly, with the help of an independent investment advisor or through a company-sponsored retirement or benefit plan. He leads a workforce of approximately 13,000 employees, with headquarters in San Francisco and branch offices in more than 300 locations across the United States plus London, Hong Kong and Puerto Rico.

In 1983, at the age of 22, Mr. Bettinger founded The Hampton Company (“Hampton”) in Akron Ohio. Between 1983 and 1995, Hampton grew into one of the largest privately held providers of retirement plan services to corporations and their employees in the country. The Charles Schwab Corporation acquired Hampton in late 1995.

In addition to his professional duties, Mr. Bettinger is active in numerous charitable and philanthropic efforts and serves on the Board of Trustees of several non-profit organizations. He and his wife, Teri, are founders of the Walt & Teri Bettinger Foundation, and the parents of five children.

A native of Ada, Ohio, Mr. Bettinger holds a degree in finance and investments, summa cum laude, from Ohio University. He has also completed the General Management program offered by the Harvard Business School.
